Online radio listening is doing nothing but growing. The rise of mobile, the connected car and portable devices have all contribute towards this change. Now, 61% of Americans 12+ listen to online radio at least once a month. For the younger generation, those aged 12-24, this stat is even higher with 87% tuning into online radio each month.

Recognition of podcasting has not stopped growing. Familiarity with the term, having remained rather static from 2009 to 2015, has shown more than a twenty percent increase in the past two years. Now, an estimated 168 million Americans, 12 years and up, are familiar with the term. Podcast consumption has also hit a new high, with 40% of Americans having ever listened to one. An estimated 67 million Americans are now listening to podcasts at least monthly.

Car audio has evolved a lot since 1922, when the only way to listen to music in your car was via the radio.

Chevrolet introduced the first car radio in 1922 for $200. The antenna covered the whole of the car’s roof and the batteries could hardly fit underneath the front seat. The two huge speakers which were attached behind the seat were also a huge inconvenience.

Now, we have internet radio, satellite radio, electrical, Bluetooth connectors for portable media players as well as in-dash slots for memory cards which are all competing with the CD and FM radio.
